Ten British regions are to benefit from£2.6bn in support from the European Commission, aimed at creating 277,000 jobs and safeguarding more than 100,000.
The main beneficiaries will be the West Midlands, north-west England, north-east England, Yorkshire and Humberside, and west Scotland.
Other winners are east Wales, east England, south-east England, south-west England, London and Thanet, and Hastings.
The funding is conditional on public and private investment and should trigger funding of more than£6bn.
The money will be spent on a range of projects, including developing the environment and sustainable development.
