Performance tables giving examination results for further education and sixth form colleges in England alongside those from school sixth forms are published for the first time today by Education Secretary John Patten.

Mr Patten said: 'The inclusion of FE and sixth form colleges in performance tables is a major step forward in the information revolution in education. Colleges are now key players in providing education and training at 16 and beyond. Almost half of all GCE A levels are now taken at colleges and they have always been major providers of vocational courses.
