Council leaders have agreed to hold further talks with health minister Malcolm Chisholm with a view to moving quickly to finalise the care home fees issue.

Colsa president Pat Watters said on Friday: 'Today has been the first opportunity for leaders to get together to consider more fully the best way forward.

'As a result of these discussions we are now in a position to speak to the minister about the arrangements that will hopefully result in a resolution of this matter which recognises the funding difficulties for local government.

'Cosla wants to come to an agreement as quickly as possible as its main concern in all of this is Scotland's frail and vulnerable elderly community.'
