A professional gardener has been fined£300 by Cardiff magistrates for letting his garden grow into a jungle of weeds, reports The Western Mail (p3).

David Owen was taken to court by neighbours in despair at his garden becoming overgrown with giant weeds and 6ft-high brambles.

Mr Owen did not appear in court but was found guilty in his absence of breaking the Town and Country Planning Act. He was ordered to pay£300 costs on top of his fine.
