Schools are being invited to register for a national election organised by BBC TV's Newsround, reports the Daily Mirror (p8).

Pupils between the ages of seven and 18 can take part in the election provided schools register for the vote.

Schools will be able to register their pupils votes by the internet, helped by Microsoft sponsorship. The company will hook up schools for free during the campaign.

Election stories will be updated every 20 minutes on the internet. Schools which register will also receive fact packs on the major political parties, to help pupils decide which parties to stand for in their own schools.

Schools wishing to register should telephone: 0990 100 300.
