The director of housing and social services at Kensington & Chelsea LBC will take up the post vacated by Steve Bundred who left to become executive director at the Improvement & Development Agency.
Camden leader Jane Roberts (Lab) said the job was a 'challenging' position but Ms Gibb was the 'outstanding candidate' who had a 'good understanding' of how to take Camden forward.
Ms Gibb is the latest in a string of social services directors being made chief
Former social services directors Annie Shepperd and Simon White were appointed chief executives at Walsall MBC and Waltham Forest LBC respectively. Mary Ney at Greenwich LBC was social services director at Harrow LBC.
Association of Directors of Social Services president David Behan said Ms Gibb's appointment was a reflection of how social services were becoming
a more significant part of the wider council remit. He was delighted for Ms Gibb, a past president of the association, he added.
