The Greater London Authority has advertised for 23 positions in the mayor's office.

The posts include a chief of staff, an executive assistant to the mayor, an office liaison manager and 11 policy advisors.

It is possible the chief of staff, who will provide 'advice on major political developments and media profile', may represent an alternative power base to the head of paid service in the GLA itself.

But a source said the jobs in the mayor's office would not be more senior than posts like the GLA's head of paid service and its service heads. The assembly has yet to finalise these.

The closing date to apply for jobs in the mayor's office was noon on Monday of this week. The GLA was unable to say when interviews would start or when appointments would be announced.
