An independent inquiry for West Glamorgan CC has led to disciplinary action and suspension for five staff at a council-run home for people with physical disabilities, reported The Guardian (7 Jan, p7).

The inquiry, which was made for the council by Richard Clough, general secretary of the Social Care Association, revealed how residents were frequently neglected and left in misery by staff who were sometimes drunk during 'notorious parties'.

West Glamorgan social services director Peter Marr said his department is committed to putting things right as quickly as possible, the paper reported.
