Management consultants Arthur Andersen have been asked by Glasgow City Council to draw up plans for a PFI scheme to build and manage up to 12 Glasgow schools, reports The Herald (p1).

Arthur Andersen has been given until the middle of next month to come up with a scheme which would contribute to the council's£71m 'rationalisation programme'. The consultant would then have the opportunity of bidding for the scheme itself, which has led to questions being raised by parents over a potential clash of interest.

The scheme promised is said to include two new schools being built on either side of the Clyde, and ten more being upgraded.
