Glasgow City Council has taken over parking control from the police, according to The Scotsman (p6).

Its new attendants are expected to issue an extra 30,000 tickets in the first year, making the city£4m profit.

The attendants, whose numbers have swelled from 78 to 105, will use hand held computers to issue tickets.

Alistair Watson, the land services committee convener, said: 'Glasgow is a very large city and it has a large commuting force so we hope the new parking attendants will help keep the city moving. All the revenue from the new parking scheme will be ploughed back into the city.'
