A 14 year-old boy yesterday won the first stage in a High Court battle to live with his father who is facing child abuse allegations, to the concern of Gloucestershire social services, the Guardian reports (p4).

The boy was given leave to seek a residence order under the Children's Act by a High Court judge sitting in Bristol, who also ordered Gloucestershire social services to prepare a report assessing the child's risk if he was to move back with his father.

The boy will return to the High Court in February to try and win the residence order. His father is expected to stand trial in April.
