A boy aged 14 accused of stealing a handbag from an 80-year-old woman was freed on bail after a Gloucestershire court heard children's homes could not hold him, reports The Times (p7).

A Gloucestershire County Council social worker told Cheltenham magistrates the boy had been remanded into the local authority's care earlier this year but had to be moved to various homes.

The boy was released on bail on condition he does not leave his homes unless with a parent or a social worker.
