The Department for Education has today taken the next step in the process of consultation on the introduction of a Common Funding Formula (CFF) for self governing grant maintained schools.

The Chief Education Officers and Chairman of Governors of self governing GM schools in Hillingdon, Bromley, Essex, Calderdale and Gloucestershire have been invited to become involved in more detailed work on the Common Funding Formula.

This is prior to a more formal consultation towards the end of this year on the introduction of the CFF in April 1994. Education Minister Emily Blatch said: 'This is the next step in the continuing consultation process on a Common Funding Formula for GM schools.

There was an even greater response to the second consultation than to the first which shows that we were right to consult widely on our proposals. 'We will be consulting formally on where the pilot areas should be towards the end of the year.

We intend to use the time until then in talking to the GM schools and LEAs in the five areas, building on and refining the proposals set out in the second consultation paper.' 'We are keen to learn from the experiences of the schools in Hillingdon, Bromley, Calderdale, Essex and Gloucestershire and that will be reflected in the formal consultation.

I am sure that everyone will welcome the opportunity to contribute to the success of the CFF in their area.'
