The convenor of the general worker's union has greeted the news of yesterday's go-ahead for the Thorp nuclear fuel reprocessing plant as a victory for West Cumbria, reports the Guardian (p6).

The paper reports on the importance of British Nuclear Fuels Ltd to the areas coastline economy, with only Cumbria county council providing more jobs.

Copeland BC was the only council which has investigated all the arguments into the plant and had come down in its favour, reports the paper.
