Cardiff lord mayor Russell Goodway has failed in his bid to become Labour's candidate for the south Wales seat of Ogmore.

Swansea lecturer Huw Irranca Jones was selected by Labour Party members and will run against Liberal Democrat candidate Veronica Watkins, Plaid Cymru's Bleddyn Hancock and Conservative Guto Bebb.

The by-election follows the death of Sir Ray Powell, Labour's MP who held the seat for 20 years .
