Nottinghamshire CC has lost one of its two assistant chief executives and has no plans to replace him, while it still seeks to fill a vacancy for chief executive.

Terry Gorman has taken early retirement at the age of 52 after 27 years with the council. He intends to spend more time working for the Society of Chief Personnel Officers and the National Network for Better Government for Older People.

It is unclear what the future management structure will be until a new chief executive is appointed.

Former chief executive Peter Housden moved to the Department for Education and Skills last month after being appointed director-general for schools.

County treasurer Roger Latham is acting chief executive.
