The government is waiting for the end of legal action involving Shirley Porter, the former leader of Westminster LBC, and five of her council colleagues, before reconsidering the procedure for holding councillors personally liable for financial losses, reports the Financial Times (p3).

Confirmation of the government's position comes in a document submitted to the Nolan Committee which is studying standards on public life, and which is currently looking at local authorities.
