Leaked documents have revealed ministers concealed evidence that its plan for 24-hour drinking would lead to more violence in city centres.

The papers, seen by The Sunday Times(p5), show that references to the consequences of longer pub opening hours were removed from a Whitehall report before it was published.

The licensing bill, passed last year, paved the way for the abolition of fixed drinking times. The policy is expected to be introduced in July next year.
