The government has confirmed it is rethinking its Education Bill, which would tightly control the activities of student unions, in the light of a threatened revolt by Tory peers, the Scotsman reports (p4).

A rethink had been widely rumoured but was confirmed to be underway yesterday by Scottish Education Minister Hamilton, the paper says.

The Bill's Lords committee stage is being delayed while ministers embark on a radical review aimed at saving it.
