Protests against school funding cuts by governors and parents have intensified, reports the Financial Times (p8).

Campaigners are planning to hold a 'vote' of parents in England and Wales on larger classes and teacher redundancies. An organisation calling itself Fight Against Cuts in Education, which includes teachers, governors and parent-teacher associations, will attempt to organise the vote, the paper says.

The pressure group was formed in Warwickshire, where governors of 90 schools in the county have said they will budget for a deficit P an illegal act which requires the county council to remove their financial powers and set a budget P as a delaying tactic.

Around 700 protesters yesterday demonstrated at Devon County Hall in Exeter as the council met to discuss a proposed £12.3m education budget cut, the FT adds.
