Two people applying for council houses have been suspended from Gwynedd CC's housing register for abusive and threatening behaviour towards council staff.

The Daily Post (23 July, p14) reported that the council's tenancy review panel made the decision after considering reports from officers. 'The council will no longer tolerate this kind of behaviour from applicants,' said area housing manager Richard Roberts.

'We are now implementing new procedures within the Housing Act 1996 which allows the council to remove such persons from the register.'

Mr Robers also warned that in future, anyone with a confirmed history of anti-social behaviour or selling drugs will also be referred to the panel and, if sufficient evidence is available, those applicants will also be suspended from the register.

'Council tenants are entitled to the quiet enjoyment of their home and neighbourhood without nuisance or annoyance from others,' said Mr Roberts.
