Gypsies facing eviction after Oxfordshire CC obtained a high court order under the Criminal Justice Act have warned that new legislation will cost the taxpayers more in the long run, reports BBC Oxford.

The county council received an order to evict 25 caravans parked illegally in a layby on the A4260 Oxford to Banbury road near Shipton-on-Cherwell.

One of the gypsies claimed it would be cheaper to provide them with a transit site for which they would pay rent and water rates.

'Eventually it would save the taxpayers a lot of money from the cost of getting court orders to evict us. When we get evicted from one place we have to go to somewhere else on somebody else's land and they have to evict us. It's costing the taxpayers a lot of money', he added.
