The transformation of a Hackney LBC housing estate through a pioneering scheme set up by residents and the local authority has seen parts of the estate 'rented out' as a film set for pop videos, TV programmes and films.

The Sun (p6) reports that the Nightingale Estate has seen a huge drop in crime as proceeds from the charges made to film-makers are ploughed back into local services.

The cost of filming on the estate is around£1,000 a day and 20% of the proceeds go the to the residents' association. Stars who have paid for the privilege include Paul McCartney, Oasis and Blur.
