Hackney LBC's innovative new Street Leader scheme will be leading a major clean up around the borough in June.
'Street Leaders' have been given a small disposable camera - paid for by Serviceteam - to take photos of their local 'grot spots' - dumps, litter, abandoned vehicles etc.
Robert Biggs, Hackney's director of environmental services, said: 'Together with our contractor Serviceteam, we will be tackling the local problems which so irk residents.
'The film from the cameras will be developed from which a number of grot spots around the borough will be identified.'
Serviceteam, Hackney LBC's waste contractor, will then be bringing in a large force of grimebusters from other parts of their£200m company on Sunday June 3 to clear the rubbish - helped by 'Street Leaders'.
'Photos will be taken of the cleared areas to show the work has been done,' said Phil Walker, from Serviceteam. 'The Street Leaders will then be keeping on eye on any more dumping and reporting it and the culprits.'
Streetleaders were recently consulted on the Waste Management Services Best Value Review - looking at how to improve the service for the future.
