Claer Lloyd-Jones, currently city solicitor at Brighton & Hove City Council, has been appointed head of law and probity at Hackney LBC.

Ms Lloyd-Jones, who starts her new job on 22 October, said she was excited about the appointment: 'In my mind it's the most challenging job in local government at the moment.'

She added: 'I'm well aware that many practices in the department I'm going to be managing, and in the authority as a whole, are not what you would expect in a normal local authority, and fall well short of those standards. There's some good practice and some not so good practice.'
