Unison has leaked a memo from Hackney LBC chief executive Tony Elliston in which he describes the authority's workers as 'insolent, rude and having a bad manners bypass,' reports the Hackney Gazette (p1).
Mr Elliston's criticisms are apparently aimed at workers who failed to turn up to workshops explaining Transforming Hackney, his bid to improve council services.
The paper reports that in his memo to department heads Mr Elliston says a list is being compiled of the 'rude and the insolent' who did not attend and who failed to apologise. They have five days to explain their absence.
Unison has described Mr Elliston's remarks as 'a macho-style management of intimidation' to threaten workers with the sack.
