Bernard Lansman, a former Hackney LBC Conservative councillor, has died of a heart attack, aged 69.

The Hackney Gazette (p11) reports that Mr Lansman was a councillor for the Springfield ward in Upper Clapton from 1982 to 1990 as well as a former deputy leader of the Conservative group.

Hackney's mayor Joe Lobenstein told the paper: 'He worked for the underprivileged whatever their political persuasion.'

Hackney LBC's twinning and international links officer Andy Smith said: 'He was a wonderful man who gave selflessly to many causes.'
