An investigation into Hackney LBC housing committee chairman Simon Matthews has been called off, reports the Hackney Gazette (p5).

Hackney chief executive Tony Elliston launched an investigation late last year into claims that Mr Matthews failed to declare an interest while voting on the sale of council property to a housing association.

A Hackney LBC spokesperson told the paper: 'The chief executive has written to councillor Matthews telling him that the matter has been resolved.

'Cllr Matthews has accepted he should have declared an interest and will do so in the future should the need arise.

'The chief executive has given the matter careful consideration and has decided that no further action will be taken.'
