The local government ombudsman has found Hackney LBC guilty of maladministration over the overcrowded and insanitary conditions experienced by families at a travellers' camp.

The Hackney Gazette (p15) reports that the ombudsman has recommended compensation of£250 per family for the conditions at a temporary council run camp in Upper Clapton.

The ombudsman says the council should have carried out a proper assessment of the site before moving travellers onto it.
