Welsh secretary William Hague has said he is determined to ensure there is no cover-up in the north Wales child abuse scandal, reports The Western Mail (p1).

He told the Welsh Conservative party conference at the weekend that the Welsh Office wanted 'to make sure that we deal once and for all with the dark and harrowing saga of child abuse.'

'Bungled investigation by local authorities' and 'bureaucratic indifference over the years' would not stop him from ensuring there was no cover-up and that every possible lesson was learned for the future, the Mail reports.

Mr Hague will announce today details of a judicial review into the Clwyd abuse allegations. He will claim that the Jillings inquiry report had been so peppered with libellous allegations against staff as to make it unpublishable.
