Neath MP, Peter Hain, today tabled an early day motion calling for an investigation into Wandsworth LBC's housing policy in the wake of the district auditor's report into Westminster LBC.

Mr Hain claims that: 'Like Westminster, Wandsworth was virtually unique in that half the total council homes sold were empty properties to new residents who were overwhelmingly Conservative supporters, rather than sitting tenants, and that in the case of West Hill and Parkside at least, this policy transformed once Labour marginal s into relatively safe Conservative wards, enabling Wandsworth to remain Conservative in 1986 and 1990.'
