Hammond payoff put at £220,000

  • Comment

West Sussex CC chief executive Mark Hammond received a £220,000 payoff, a local newspaper has reported.

Mr Hammond was summoned back from holiday in September and sacked by leader Louise Goldsmith (Con).

Her actions were denounced at the time by the Association of Local Authority Chief Executives as “outrageous and arbitrary”.

The Argus has reported that information about the payoff has now been given to councillors in private.

After receiving a warning from ALACE, West Sussex later insisted the departure had been amicable and that Mr Hammond and Cllr Goldsmith had agreed the time was right for senior management changes.
