Hampshire CC has been asked to find 2,000 pigeons for the 50th anniversary D Day celebrations in France and is sending out an urgent appeal to pigeon enthusiasts in the county.

President of the Regional Council of Lower Normandy, Monsieur Rene Garrec, which has links with Hampshire, has invited schoolchildren from the two regions to take part in a memorial Day ceremony in Normandy on 30 May, which will involve 6,000 pigeons.

Pupils from local schools will join in the ceremony to involve the next generation in looking forward for peace, says Jill Lovelock, responsible for European affairs at Hampshire.

Organisers have so far only managed to find 4,000 pigeons and have turned to Hampshire for help.
