Unison members at Haringey LBC have voted to strike over cuts to working terms and conditions.

A ballot found 85% of members wanted to strike over changes which included cutting manual workers' pay by£495.

The council has threatened to sack and re-engage all staff if they do not accept the changes, but branch secretary Valentine Prince-Williams said: 'Staff are prepared to resist the council's attempt to tear up their contracts.'

The council said: 'We are facing a very serious budget situation. The gap is£23 million.'
