Haringey LBC is to implement a management shake up from 1 April, reducing the number of directorates from eight to five, the borough said today.

The new service directors will be: Andy Ludlow, housing and social services (formerly director of housing); Richard Jones, education and leisure services (formerly education); Peter Bishop, technical and environmental services (formerly property and technical); Peter Norton, contract and construction services (formerly contract); and John Pirrie, corporate services(formerly finance).

Housing and social services are to be merged into four area offices to provide new one stop shops. A new benefits agency will be located in the one stop shops combining housing benefits, council tax benefits, free school meals and clothing vouchers.

Haringey expects to save £600,000 from the changes next year as layers of management are reduced through the structure. Structures within the directorates are being revised to meet the legislative requirements of compulsory competitive tendering.
