Haringey LBC's new chief executive is internal candidate David Warwick.

Mr Warwick has been acting chief executive since Gurbux Singh left to become chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality. Previously he was director of corporate services. He began at Haringey in 1995 as assistant director of finance in housing and social services.

He said: 'I am looking forward to taking up the challenge of this post. I have clear ideas about how the council can improve its performance and I'm positive about ensuring this happens.'

Mr Warwick beat off competition from Camden LBC social services director Simon White and Lambeth LBC solicitor Ged Curran.
