Newport CBC leader and chairman of the Welsh Local Government Association Harry Jones has been accused by national assembly leadership candidate Rhodri Morgan of dirty tricks, reports the Western Mail (p1).

Mr Morgan claims Mr Jones sent David Edwards, ex-leader of Pembrokeshire CC, a letter, urging him to recommend members who were 'uncommitted' or could be 'persuaded to cross over' to rival candidate Michael Alun, the Welsh secretary.

Mr Jones described the allegation as 'absolute rubbish'.
