Southwark LBC environmental management head Keith Weir told a guest speaker he would have his 'head on the block', according to a report in the South London Press (p4).

Mr Weir made the comment to Institute of Burial and Cremation Administration national secretary Ian Hussein at a meeting of Friends of Honor Oak Park.

The group is trying to stop Southwark Council taking land for burial, reports the SLP.

A council spokesman told the paper: 'During the meeting Mr Weir was subject to extreme provocation and lost his temper, which he now regrets. Southwark will seek a full explanation from Mr Weir and will deal with the matter through established procedures.'
