The Manchester Evening News (January 6, p7) reported that health bosses in Manchester have been criticised for failing to join a council led campaign to win more funding for the city.

Nik Barstow of the Central Manchester community health council told the paper:

'Manchester is just about the most unhealthy place in Britain and it will not get better if the health authority continues to work in isolation.

'We think it is short-sighted and autocratic of them not to have backed the city council's campaign for more money.

'Cuts in services have a direct impact on health services.'
