British Airways has submitted proposals for expansion at Heathrow that would mean demolishing 5,000 homes in two villages, reports The Times (p9).

The airline has suggested that an additional runway and terminal a mile north of the airport would relieve air traffic congestion. However, the plans would lead to Sipson and Harmondsworth making way for a runway for small and medium-sized aircraft.

The outline proposals have been sent to ministers as part of a two-year consultation investigating whether, and where, an extra runway should be built in the south east.
