The former Highland RC is being sued by a helicopter firm whose aircraft crashed while delivering ballot boxes in the 1992 election.

Dollar Air Services is seeking£500,000 from the council. The company claims the council failed to switch on landing lights as the aircraft came in to land at Inverie.

Highland Council, which took over from the regional council, said it will defend the action. A spokesman said the aircraft tried to land in adverse weather conditions and before undertaking a reconnaissance of the airfield.
