By the turn of the century up to 50% of Britain's workforce could be employed in 'flexible work' - that is part time, temporary or contract work - states The Times (Management Plus sect, p5).

With the public sector resorting increasingly to contracted workers, it could have implications for recruitment agencies as well as the workers.

The article points out that people who work on a contract basis suffer a different kind of work-related stress. Recruitment consultancies as well as employers must ensure that people have someone to talk to at work about their problems.
