The LGA has announced Herman Ouseley as the next LGA president at the LGA annual general assembly.

As president of the LGA, Lord Ouseley will represent local government on behalf of the association in an honorary capacity.

Lord Ouseley said: 'I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to serve as LGA president which 30 yeas in local government has given me the experience to do. This is a great honour.'

LGA chair Jeremy Beecham said: 'I am delighted that Lord Ouseley with his long and distinguished career in public service has accepted the invitation to be president of the Local Government Association.

'At a time when it is particularly important to ensure that local government is increasingly representative and inclusive, his reputation in the field of community relations will be a great asset to our organisation.'

Lord Ouseley previous roles have included principal race relations advisor to the greater London council, chief executive for Lambeth LBC, inner London education authority and commission for racial equality.
