East Devon DC has the right to evict New Age travellers off is land, the high court ruled yesterday.

The Western Morning News reports (p7) that the travellers, camped out near Dunkeswell, had challenged the council's right to evict them.

But the judge has postponed the eviction until after the winter. The travellers will have to leave by March 1.

The judge said: 'I am conscious of the fact that there is nowhere else to go. We don't want them to move in the snow.'

According to the paper the travellers had claimed that the council had acted unreasonably by seeking the injunction before deciding the issue of planning consent.
