The High Court yesterday ruled that Erewash BC acted unlawfully and unreasonably in trying to send two disabled pensioners to prison for allegedly not paying their poll tax, the Guardian reports (p3).

The paper says a 28 day jail sentence given to the couple by Ilkeston magistrates was quashed.
