In light of the a £10m government package to curb truancy due to be announced tomorrow, the Evening Standard (p2) carries a story about spiralling absences at an affluent London school.

As the government prepare to publish the first truancy league table, the paper claims more than half of 15-year-olds at the school are playing truant.

Tomorrow Baroness Blatch is expected to underline the government's belief that truancy leads to more juvenile crime.
