Highland RC faces a repair bill that could reach £500,000 after it has emerged that schools were not insured against damage from burst pipes, The Herald reports (p3).

The education vice chairman, Sandy Russell, denies that the lack of insurance cover for burst pipes was short sighted, the paper reports.

'In an average year, where the amount of damage caused by burst pipes is small, the cost of the insurance premium is far higher than the actual repairs required. We have assessed the position time and again and over a 20-year period the cost is not justified.'
