Legal history was made this week after two neighbours successfully sued Labour run Hounslow LBC over their service charge payments.

Cathy Hook and Jenny Lambert from Brentford won compensation from the council after arguing they were paying for work which was never carried out.

Hounslow is considering an appeal. The ruling in a county court could lead to action by hundreds of other tenants against Hounslow's housing department.

At the two day hearing at Uxbridge County Court Ms Hook and Mrs Lambert - who bought their properties under right to buy legislation - argued they were being charged £300 a year for a service which did not exist.

On Tuesday, the judge ordered Hounslow to pay Ms Hook and Mrs Lambert £1,500 and £1,000 damages respectively. The council will also pay court costs.
