People whose homes are served by private sewage plants will have to register with the Environment Agency under amendments to water regulations, The Northern Echo reported (28 Aug, p7).

The amendments mean anyone responsible, either directly or indirectly, for discharge of effluent into rivers or streams must be individually registered.
