We are changing with the times but remain the single voice for independent not-for-profit social housing organisations - this is the message from the newly-named National Housing Federation, known until this week as the National Federation of Housing Associations.

Jim Coulter, chief executive of the National Housing Federation, said:

'The social housing sector is changing. We are responding to that change so that we remain effective advocates for independent organisations that build and run social housing. The name change is one part of that, but an important one in that it is the most easily recognised.

'It does not signal wholesale change though. The independence, social motivation and not-for-profit nature of our members are values we will continue to promote and protect. They remain at the heart of the National Housing Federation as they were at the heart of the NFHA.'
